Abby LevineFor the past twenty years, I have been making wood-burned and painted wood constructions with political and social themes.  My most recent work has been constructed with scraps of wood generated by the last four years of production.  I’ve found that by minimizing my use of figuration and narrative that I can express the same themes more emotionally, without the didacticism and irony inherent in my older pieces.  This allows me to work more intuitively and frees me from literary constraints.

The pieces I have submitted relate to the relationship of the human race to other creatures sharing the planet, and how, by our actions, we have corrupted this relationship.
